The Desert Healthcare District Healthcare Professionals Scholarship Program, in conjunction with Pathways to Success, provides scholarship assistance and student support services to Coachella Valley students who are pursuing a healthcare related college or university education at an accredited academic institution in the United States.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for consideration for the Healthcare Professionals scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Student must be a resident of the Desert Healthcare District.
- Student must apply for federal financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Student must demonstrate financial need as identified by FAFSA or as defined by the academic institution.
- Student must be applying as an undergraduate at an accredited college, university, or academic institution in the U.S.
- Student must be enrolled full-time and maintain full-time enrollment status (as defined by academic institutions).
- Student must have a high school GPA of 2.0 or above, or meet college/university academic requirements for admissions and continued enrollment.
- Student will be expected to sign a contract with Pathways to Success involving them in scheduled events, mentoring, workshops, and web-based interactions.
- Preference will be given to students completing career academy programs in healthcare in Desert Healthcare District high schools or healthcare majors at COD and CSUSB Palm Desert.
- Student must submit two letters of recommendation from a Professor, Instructor, Counselor, or Community Leader.
- Students will be encouraged to make their best efforts to seek employment as a healthcare professional in the Coachella Valley upon graduation and maintain employment for a minimum of one year.
Scholarship Award Amounts
Scholarships will be awarded for two (2) years in the following amounts (based on financial need):
- Up to $2,500 per year to College of the Desert students.
- Up to $5,000 per year to undergraduates attending accredited colleges and universities.
Scholarship awards are for tuition, books, educational fees, and/or living expenses.
