MENTORS ADVISING STUDENTS (MAS)
Mentor Page
Pathways to Success is recruiting individuals who are willing to commit some of their time to mentoring one or more of our students by facilitating personal, academic, and professional growth. Each year, Pathways to Success will provide scholarships to approximately 300 students. Our mentors will be matched with one or more of these students and expected to:
Meet with the student(s) at least once a semester or quarter for a minimum of one (1) year and learn about their academic and career goals, family situation and any special challenges or barriers they face while in college.
Establish an email or phone connection in which the student(s) can keep the mentor up to date on their progress and challenges while respecting both parties’ privacy.
Determine what areas of assistance that may be needed to help the student(s) succeed while in college.
Share the knowledge and experience of a mentor to help the student(s) overcome their obstacles.
Refer the student(s) to resources and student services that can further assist them in their personal, academic, and professional growth.
Motivate the student(s) when they are facing difficult challenges while in college, by encouraging them and providing them with the support needed to succeed.
Help the student(s) overcome academic difficulties by providing positive feedback to reinforce their successful development and constructive feedback to change any behaviors non-conducive to such successful development.
Guide the student(s) to set goals that will lead to their completion of an undergraduate degree and successful personal and professional development.
Communicate with Pathways staff on any issues or problems that may require assistance or intervention.
Pathways to Success will provide training to each mentor on the fundamentals of successful mentoring. We hope that mentors will take a personal interest in the success of their student(s) and will help us provide the services and support that the student(s) requires in a timely fashion. Volunteers can make the difference in the success of our students and provide a valuable contribution to the youth of the Coachella Valley.
